KUALA LUMPUR – The death toll from Covid-19 has breached 1,000 cases after 22 new deaths today, but recoveries today are almost double the amount of new infections logged.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham said the country recorded 22 deaths, bringing the death toll to 1,005.
The country also saw 5,709 discharged, while new cases are at 2,998.
This brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 229,762 and total cases to 272,163.
Noor Hisham said nine of the new cases today were imported.
A total of 231 cases, the ministry said, were under intensive care, while 115 required intubation.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 1,382, followed by Johor (436), Negeri Sembilan (233), Kuala Lumpur (226) and Sarawak (200).
Perak saw 99 cases, followed by Penang (92), Terengganu (91), Kelantan (72), Kedah (36), Pahang (14),Putrajaya (2), and Labuan (1).
Perlis did not record any new cases today.
Noor Hisham said 103 of the new cases reported today were related to detention centres consisting of the Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (48 cases), Tembok Bendera cluster (22), Tembok Tapah cluster (12), Seberang Perai Prison cluster (7), Sungai Jelok prison cluster (7), Tembok Sungai Udang cluster (4), Kepayan Prison cluster (1), Tembok Mempaga Cluster (1), and Matambai cluster (1).
He said eight of the deaths today occurred in Selangor, four in Sabah, and three in Kuala Lumpur.
Two deaths were recorded in Sarawak and Perak each, while Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Johor logged one death each.
One death in Selangor involved a 100-year-old man at Sungai Buloh Hospital. The centenarian had a history of high-blood pressure and asthma.
Noor Hisham also said that the country has seen 1,028 clusters so far, including 13 new clusters today.
He added that 529 clusters have ended, including 13 which are the Damai Ketari, Senai Cyber, Taman Sayong Pinang, Belukar, Sungai Burong, Tampoi Lima, Jalan Taruka, Jalan Rami, Udarama, Tapak Bina Jalan Zuhrah, Puncak Galaksi, Dang Mutiara, and Kampung Geting clusters.
He said 75 clusters recorded new cases. Those that logged the most cases are the Tanjung Suria cluster (380 cases), followed by the Kebun Baru (186) and Industri TTJ (141) clusters.
Noor Hisham said 10 of the 13 new clusters seen today are workplace clusters, while two were from high-risk groups and another involved a community cluster.
Selangor recorded the Jalan Emas construction site cluster in the Petaling district with 49 cases, the Jalan Rawang cluster in Gombak with 42 cases, the Jalan DC cluster in Kuala Selangor with 13 cases, the Jalan Subang cluster with 28 cases, and the Seksyen Satu construction site cluster with 18 cases.
Johor saw the Jalan Persiaran Cyber cluster in Kota Tinggi with 121 cases, the Jalan Payamanis cluster in Johor Baru with 39 cases, the Senai Murni Empat in Kulai with 18 cases, and the Jalan Perindustrian Murni with 18 cases.
The Health Ministry also detected the Industri Tekstil Nilai cluster in Seremban and Port Dickson (Negeri Sembilan) with 64 cases, as well as the Jalan Sultan construction site cluster in Lembah Pantai (Kuala Lumpur) with 120 cases, and the Pulau Rusa cluster in Marang, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu and Dungun (Terengganu) with 18 cases. – The Vibes, February 17, 2021
