INVESTIGATIONS into the case involving former Kuala Langat Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar, which was opened in 2021, have been completed.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the decision was made after it conducted a thorough review and investigation of the information and evidence obtained in relation to the case.
According to it, two investigation papers were opened in 2021 in accordance with Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
"Following thorough investigations and detailed examination of the relevant facts, documents and evidence, the deputy public prosecutor decided in 2024 to close the case as there was insufficient evidence to prefer charges against Datuk Dr Xavier," MACC said in a statement today.
The MACC explained that the duration of an investigation depends on the complexity of the case and the need to obtain, examine and verify relevant information and evidence.
The MACC also stressed that every investigation is conducted professionally, transparently and based on facts and evidence without being influenced by any party.
"In this regard, all parties are requested not to make any speculation or assumptions regarding the matter as the investigation has been completed," it said.
Yesterday, former Member of Parliament Kua Kia Soong questioned the status of the corruption investigation against Xavier as there was no confirmation whether he was charged, convicted or acquitted of any wrongdoing.
Kua, who was also Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya from 1990 to 1995, said the lack of clarification created an accountability gap and raised questions about the credibility of the institution responsible for investigating corruption.
Xavier recently confirmed that he had rejoined PKR, five years after leaving the party. – August 20, 2026
