MIRI – Torrential rain and turbulent winds early today have left a trail of destruction in southern Sarawak.
As of 10am, the state Disaster Management Committee and Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department reported floods in many housing and commercial areas.
Floods are fast-rising and hitting other areas, the agencies said in their latest updates.
The worst-hit districts and sub-districts are Lundu, Samarahan, Kuching, Batu Kawa, Petra Jaya, Matang, Siburan and Serian.
The Fire and Rescue Department teams said Taman Muara Tuang residents in Samarahan district are being evacuated as floodwaters have risen to more than 1m.

The victims are being transported by lifeboats to higher ground, pending help from welfare authorities.
In the Lundu district, a trunk road linking the town to villages have collapsed.
The Lundu fire station reported that the road caved due to soil erosion following torrential rain in the area.
In the Serian district, trees were uprooted in many villages due to turbulent wind, said rescue authorities.
