KOTA KINABALU – Sabah PKR has joined the chorus against having a PAS representative in the state assembly.
Chief Datuk Christina Liew in a statement today said the proposal is not acceptable to Sabah given that that state exemplifies multi-racial, inter-religious and multi-cultural harmony values.
“Sabahans embrace the principle of moderation and the concept of unity in diversity as opposed to a culture of divisiveness that potentially causes racial discord.
“We denounce any political ideology that is in conflict with multiculturalism (as a political philosophy) and cannot accept any brand of politics that smacks of extremism.
“We pride ourselves on preserving unity among law-abiding and peace-loving Malaysians in Sabah,” said Liew, who retained her Api-Api state seat.
She was commenting on Selangor PAS leader Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir’s statement on Friday that the party qualified to get a spot in Sabah’s legislative assembly and government.
On Thursday, Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said he expected PAS to receive at least one of the six nominated assemblymen spots available to the state government.
Expressing grave concern, Liew, who is a former deputy chief minister said Sabahans’ rejection of PAS is reflected in an ongoing petition to the state government.
The signature campaign was initiated three days ago by a group known as Better Sabah, aiming to hit the 25,000 mark.
Liew added PAS did not contest in the Sabah polls and never won a seat in the state.
