KOTA KINABALU – Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa has no business meddling in Sabah’s affairs, said Sabah Umno youth chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain.
In today’s response to Annuar’s statement that the Chinese don't deserve to be in the state cabinet, Aziz said he is in no position to speak on the matter.
“Why would he jump the gun too soon? Already we have newly appointed leaders in the likes of (Datuk Seri) Hajiji and (Datuk Seri) Bung that I believe could speak and resonate the perfect definition of unity and diversity,” he said in a Facebook post.
Aziz was referring to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor and deputy Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Hajiji and Bung Moktar are leaders in the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) alliance.
Days after GRS’ victory in the Sabah election, Annuar at a press conference said there should be no Chinese representation in the Sabah government as all candidates from the minority groups lost in the election.
He also called for a PAS leader to be made an assemblyman that received flak from state political leaders, including those in GRS.
Under Article 14 of the state constitution, the governor may appoint up to six nominated assemblymen on the recommendation of the state government.
Aside from lacking a Chinese rep, the GRS also lacks women representation. Only two women have been elected Julita Mojunki (Matunggong-PBS) and Flovia Ng (Tulid-Sabah Star).
In December, Sabah Umno was granted autonomy from the central party leadership that included the power to choose election candidates, determine choice of chief minister, and adopt issues related to rights and interest of Sabahans. – The Vibes, October 3, 2020
