KUALA LUMPUR – Being investigated under the Sedition Act, as well the Multimedia and Communications Act, is an attempt to gag me, said Klang MP Charles Santiago.
After being questioned at Bukit Aman for more than 90 minutes today, Santiago posted on Facebook that the police have opened investigation papers in nine days after a report was lodged against him.
“I hope they (the police) will act (just) as swiftly when dealing with powerful people, such as ministers who flout Covid-19 SOPs, for instance.
“I would like to reiterate that I am only exercising my constitutional rights as an elected representative of the people.
“It’s very much within my jurisdiction as a member of Parliament to raise critical and pertinent questions.”
It was reported that Malaysiakini editor-in-chief Steven Gan was summoned by Bukit Aman today.
It is understood Santiago and Gan are being investigated over remarks made against the Federal Court’s decision that found Malaysiakini guilty of contempt on February 19.
The apex court had ordered the news portal to pay a RM500,000 fine. – The Vibes, March 1, 2021
