GUA MUSANG – The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department has set up three community fire squads involving the Orang Asli in a move to equip the indigenous community for rescue tasks during emergencies.
Its director, Md Salleh Sarbini said two of the fire squads were set up at Pos Brooke and the other, at Pos Hendrop.
He said members of the fire squads, involving 32 Orang Asli, will be given adequate training in fire fighting.
This is to enable them to assist in fire fighting operations, especially in Orang Asli villages located far from town, he told reporters after opening a Public Awareness and Safety Campaign programme with the Orang Asli Community at Pos Brooke, here, today.
He said plans are also afoot to build a fire and rescue station in the Orang Asli settlement. – Bernama, October 4, 2020
