MIRI – Sarawak records three more Covid-19 fatalities today, bringing the death toll in the state to 87.

Of the new deaths, one involves a 42-year-old man, who succumbed to acute breathing conditions.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement said the Miri local suffered from diabetes when he contracted the coronavirus. He died in Miri Hospital.

The other two deaths involve a 53-year-old man in Bintulu Hospital and a 58-year-old woman in Sibu Hospital.

Today, the state registers 221 fresh infections.

Sibu continues to record the highest number of new cases with 79, followed by Bintulu (33), Betong (32), Kuching (17), Kapit (12), Julau (10) and Miri (five), while other districts have fewer than five.

There are 26 active clusters in the state, including a new one involving two longhouses in Bukit Tunggal, Julau, where 29 people were infected during a harvest gathering.

Sibu Hospital registers 931 Covid-19 patients today, while Miri Hospital has 297; Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, 278; Bintulu Hospital, 355; Kapit Hospital, 143; Sarikei Hospital, 156; Betong Hospital, 199; and Sri Aman Hospital, 13. – The Vibes, March 6, 2021
