Only 18 of 252 new cases today showed symptoms, says state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.

MIRI – Sarawak is seeing a worrying phenomenon of 234 new Covid-19 infected people who have shown absolutely no outward symptoms.

The discovery of these 234 “silent” coronavirus carriers out of the 252 new infections was announced today by the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.

Another new death, that of a 66-year-old man in Kapit Hospital, took the fatality toll to 88 in Sarawak.

“There are 252 new Covid-19 infections in Sarawak today, and 234 of these infected people showed absolutely no symptoms.

“Only 18 showed signs of the coronavirus.

“All of the 252 infected people were found through active tracing and screening in the community,” the secretariat said in a press statement.

Sibu district recorded 149 new Covid-19 infections today with 133 of them showing zero symptoms while in Miri, 17 new infections were found, with 13 cases also having no symptoms.

The rest came from other districts.

Bintulu district saw 23 new positive cases, Subis 13, Kuching seven, and a few other districts less than seven.

There are 26 active clusters statewide.

Sibu Hospital is treating 985 coronavirus patients, Miri Hospital 328, Bintulu Hospital 328, Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching 286, Betong Hospital 212, Kapit Hospital 146, Sarikei Hospital 134, Sri Aman Hospital 21, and Mukah Hospital six. – The Vibes, March 8, 2021
