IPOH – DAP has no plans to work with kleptocratic elements heading into the next general election, said outgoing secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Lim, who is stepping down later this year after having maxed out his term, reiterated that his party is open to working with other political outfits on common issues that will benefit the people and nation.
He cited the example of DAP supporting the move last December by Umno, through Barisan Nasional, to oust Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Perak menteri besar, as it was to the people’s benefit.
“We will work with parties who share our aspirations,” he told a record turnout of more than 2,100 delegates at the state DAP convention, held at the International Convention Centre here, today.
Lim said Umno has pledged to reform the state’s governance.
Earlier, he said it is a waste of RM3 billion if MPs, who are in line to be vaccinated as frontliners, cannot convene in Parliament after getting their Covid-19 jabs.
Parliament sittings are important to safeguard the people’s rights and help the country weather the pandemic, he said.
If DAP is able to organise a convention with more than 2,000 attendees, he said, there is no reason why Parliament cannot reconvene soon.

State DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming said its legal bureau has formed a committee to represent the poor, especially those who have been fined the maximum RM10,000 for violating standard operating procedures like not wearing a mask or observing physical distancing.
The compound amount is excessive, he said. – The Vibes pic, March 14, 2021
