MIRI – Another Covid-19 cluster in Sarawak has emerged following a funeral-kenduri-tahlil prayer session in a village in Tg Manis, which was attended by kampung folks from the Mukah and Sarikei districts.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said this new cluster in central Sarawak, dubbed Kg Rajang Tg Manis cluster, saw 29 people testing positive today.

“A funeral-kenduri-tahlil prayer gathering at Kg Rajang, Tg Manis involving kampung folks from the Mukah and Sarikei districts have sparked this new cluster.

“Initial probes showed there was a cross-district movement of people going for this funeral-kenduri-tahlil prayer gathering.

“So far, 29 have been found positive with Covid-19,” the secretariat said in statement today.

Active tracing and screening are being carried out in the Tg Manis village and its vicinity, as well as on close contacts in Sarikei.

Sibu and Sarikei are about 90km apart. Today, the Jun Heng cluster in Bintulu ended. Sarawak still has 34 active clusters, with its death toll at 97.
