SHAH ALAM – After the long meeting this morning on the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in Klang, the Selangor government has collated suggestions and feedback to Putrajaya to include in the standard operating procedure (SOP).
This includes the announcement of Klang’s CMCO SOP that was announced yesterday by Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“For the sake of coordination and uniformity of information, the National Security Council (NSC) will announce the details on how Klang’s CMCO will be carried out,” said the brief statement from the Selangor Menteri Besar’s office.
But, the NSC posted on its Facebook page that further announcements on the Klang CMCO will be made by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Klang along with Sabah’s Tuaran and Sandakan and Papar districts, will be under CMCO beginning tomorrow.
According to Ismail Sabri yesterday, under the CMCO, only essential services and International Trade and Industry Ministry-approved manufacturers will be allowed to operate and inter-district travel will be restricted.
Restrictions under CMCO include:
- Not more than two persons in a vehicle,
- Closure of businesses providing non-essential services,
- Eateries and convenience stores will be closed after 6pm,
- No inter-city bus services,
- No travelling to work, unless in essential services. Police permission is required,
- Closure of mosques, surau, places of worship, higher education institutions, training centres, schools, kindergartens, nurseries, tahfiz centres and childcare centres,
- Ban on all sports, recreation, social and cultural activities,
- Pharmacies, eateries and convenience stores will only operate from 6am to 6pm while taxis, e-hailing services and petrol stations can operate until 8pm,
- All wet markets can only operate from 6am to 2pm while tami and night markets will be temporarily banned, and
- Those wishing to work or travel must obtain permission from the police beforehand. Travel is only allowed for emergencies and official duties.
Today’s state-level meeting by the Selangor Security Council (SSC) was conducted as the state government was not involved at the NSC’s federal-level meeting.
Klang MP Charles Santiago, who attended the meeting, said Amirudin had been given feedback and CMCO adjustment proposals from various state agencies and departments.
“The details announced by Ismail Sabri were open-ended. They go by a fixed formula. A red zone must be followed up with a CMCO.
“After hearing the Health Ministry’s briefing today, we feel that we don’t have to be too strict with this CMCO.
“This view has been extended to the federal government, but ultimately, it is up to them to deliberate and decide,” he said.
Prior to the statement by Amirudin’s office, Selangor exco member and Bandar Baru Klang rep Datuk Teng Chang Khim took to Facebook to criticise Putrajaya for announcing the CMCO without consulting the state government.
