They were charged with committing the offence at the 1st-floor elevator, Terminal One Plaza at 20B Jalan Lintang, Seremban at 5.30pm, August 3,  2015.

SEREMBAN — Two police officers pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to two counts of bribery amounting to RM3,500, five years ago

The duo with the rank of inspector, Mohd Ramdzan A. Sukor, 33, and Chang Jia Chee, 31, entered the plea before Judge Datin Surita Budin.

Both officers of the Commercial Crime Investigation Division, Seremban District Police Headquarters are charged with receiving a bribe from Tang Yee Choy, 37, as an inducement not to proceed with investigations on the man for a cheating offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

The charge framed under Section 24 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000 whichever is higher if convicted.

The two accused were offered an alternative charge under Section 165  of the Penal Code, which, if found guilty, carries a sentence of up to two years' imprisonment and a fine, or both.

They were charged with committing the offence at the 1st-floor elevator, Terminal One Plaza at 20B Jalan Lintang, Seremban at 5.30pm, August 3  2015.

Judge Surita Budin set bail at RM8,000 with one surety each and fixed Nov 11 for re-mention.

The court also ordered both accused to surrender their passports, report to the nearest MACC office every month and to refrain from harassing witnesses.

Negri Sembilan MACC prosecuting officer Zainab Yahaya conducted the prosecution while the accused were represented by lawyers Datuk Hanif Hassan and P. Purshotaman. — Bernama, October 8, 2020
