KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin must play a leading role in addressing allegations of a police “cartel” involved in graft, as claimed by the nation’s top cop, said Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo.
He said this was to ensure the public that action will be taken to purge the force of the group and corruption, as well as to consolidate Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (ISCD).
“I’m of the opinion that Perikatan Nasional has failed to tackle this issue,” the former communications and multimedia minister said in a Facebook post.
“These two issues are a serious problem that has a negative impact on PDRM (the Royal Malaysia Police).”
Gobind also posed a set of questions to the prime minister, asking about the action taken by the government in dealing with the cartel.
“Is the existence of the cartel and corruption culture in PDRM, as revealed by the IGP (Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador), true?” he asked.
“If true, isn’t corruption a matter under the jurisdiction of the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission)? Why hasn’t MACC taken action on this matter?”
In March, Hamid said there is a cartel in the force that includes younger officers conspiring to remove him.
He said the group of younger officers are masterminds of a cartel that wants to dominate the country’s security forces for personal interest.
Days after the revelation, Gobind had also called for the MACC to probe the matter.
However, Hamid insisted there is no need for the MACC to intervene as he has things under control and will put an end to moves to oust him.
Gobind, in his recent Facebook post, said it was also “unfortunate” that the matter could not be debated in parliament due to the pandemic. – The Vibes, April 20, 2021
