KUALA LUMPUR – All programmes planned under the auspices of the Youth and Sports Ministry and its agencies should be postponed until October 31, said Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

However, he said, full-time athletes’ daily training, under the purview of the National Sports Council and National Sports Association, will proceed as scheduled.

In a statement yesterday, he said the decision was made based on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This has, to some extent, affected the running of national athletes’ training programmes. However, outdoor sports programmes and events can continue according to the standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council and Health Ministry.

“All athletes must also comply with movement restrictions, travelling only from their respective hostels to training venues. They are allowed to leave their hostels once a week to go to a specified location with the permission of coaches and team managers.”

He said athletes, coaches and officers involved in full-time training and staying at the National Sports Council training centre hostel are barred from returning to their hometowns from tomorrow till October 31, except for emergencies.

Those who had travelled to conditional movement control order areas in Sabah, Kedah and Klang, or other yellow or red zones, within the last week are banned from returning to the council’s hostel for the whole of this month. – Bernama, October 11, 2020
