KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) will ensure that all highway concessionaires carry out their obligations to provide the best quality of service in the interest of road users.
Its director-general Datuk Mohd Shuhaimi Hassan said this following the government’s move to postpone toll hikes for three major highways in the country.
“In line with the government’s policy and decision, motorists will continue to enjoy lower toll rates compared to the rates stated in the concessions’ agreement.
“Besides, motorists will also enjoy quality facilities and services provided throughout highways,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Senior Minister (Works) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that the government had agreed to postpone the increase in toll rates this year for three major highways, namely the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2).
He said 21 highways and one toll plaza have continued to postpone their rate increments for all vehicle classes, including the Plus Expressway, Duke Highway, Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) and Maju Expressway (MEX).
Some highways and toll plazas across the country have paused rate increases for certain vehicle classes.
Fadillah said the postponement costs the government approximately RM2.25 billion in compensation, and that talks on a rate restructuring are ongoing, with the cabinet agreeing to finalise the matter before 2023. – Bernama, May 1, 2021
