KUALA LUMPUR – The scheduled increase in toll rates for three highways has been pushed back to December 31.

The routes are the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and East Cost Expressway 2 (LPT2).

In a statement today, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the decision was made following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, taking into account the rising cost of living amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said 21 highways and one toll plaza have continued to postpone their rate increments for all vehicle classes, including the Plus Expressway, Duke Highway, Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) and Maju Expressway (MEX).

Some highways and toll plazas across the country have paused rate increases for certain vehicle classes. However, the statement does not provide details on this.

Fadillah said the postponement costs the government approximately RM2.25 billion in compensation, and that talks on a rate restructuring are ongoing, with the cabinet agreeing to finalise the matter before 2023. – The Vibes, April 30, 2021
