KUALA TERENGGANU – The Terengganu Health Department has ordered two Ramadan bazaars in the state to close for seven days until May 7 after some traders there tested positive for Covid-19.
Department director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus, who confirmed the matter, said the bazaars are in Kuala Besut and Bukit Kenak.
“The two bazaars were ordered to close to prevent the spread of Covid-19 under Section 18(1)(d) of the Prevention and Control of Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).”
She advised the public to continue to be cautious and practise appropriate preventive measures when in crowded places.
On a viral WhatsApp claim that eight employees of a cafe in Besut were required to undergo Covid-19 screening, Dr Nor Azimi said three staff, who also operate stalls at the Ramadan bazaar, have tested positive for the virus.
Prior to this, the Tok Adis Ramadan bazaar near Kuala Ibai here was ordered to close for 14 days due to non-compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
However, the bazaar was allowed to reopen earlier than scheduled after the organiser gave an assurance that all traders and visitors will adhere to SOPs, with continuous monitoring from the authority.
This year, 69 Ramadan bazaars were allowed to open in Terengganu, comprising 22 in Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman (19), Besut (10), Setiu (6), Dungun (5), Marang (5) and Hulu Terengganu (2). – Bernama, May 2, 2021
