MIRI – Sarawak recorded 567 fresh Covid-19 infections and two deaths today, as more cases are detected at longhouses and villages.

Two out of the three new clusters in the state today involve longhouses, while the other involves a kampung, according to Sarawak Health Department statistics released by the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.

The new clusters are the Sg Tengah cluster in Bau involving 24 villagers at a prayer gathering, Sg Sebemban cluster in Bintulu involving 21 longhouse folk, and Sebujok cluster in Sri Aman involving 15 longhouse folk.

The two deaths involve an 82-year-old woman in Mukah Hospital and 88-year-old woman in Sibu Hospital.

The fatalities bring the death toll to 182.

Currently, Sarawak has 78 clusters, the secretariat said.

Out of the 567 new cases today, Mukah recorded 175, Bintulu (61), Sibu (57), Kanowit (56), Kuching (45), Kapit (37), Miri (30), Sri Aman (25), Sebauh (20) and Song (14).

Other districts logged fewer than 10 cases each.

Meanwhile, five more longhouses in Mukah have been placed under the enhanced movement control order for two weeks starting tomorrow. – The Vibes, May 2, 2021
