GEORGE TOWN – Malls and hypermarkets listed in the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) system as potential Covid-19 hotspots are allowed to reopen after their premises have been sanitised.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the HIDE system functions only as an early warning module, adding that if a particular area or building is listed, it does not mean it is linked to a Covid-19 cluster.
He made this clarification after attending today’s online National Security Council (NSC) meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“The HIDE system is developed by Bank Negara Malaysia to list probable hotspots, but the Health Ministry will make the assessment to determine if the premises must be closed.”
Based on discussions with the state-level NSC and health authorities, Chow said HIDE-listed areas can reopen by tomorrow after obtaining approval.
In Penang, the HIDE-listed premises are AEON supermarkets in Bukit Mertajam and Queensbay Mall, Gurney Paragon Mall, Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall, Lotus Egate hypermarket on the island, Lotus hypermarket in Seberang Jaya, Bukit Mertajam wet market, Spice Pisa Cafe and Bandar Perda Uptown. – The Vibes, May 10, 2021
