THE role of mothers and women in the family institution is an important foundation for the progress of a country and formation of a society that is moral, knowledgeable and resilient.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said, no matter how much physical and technological progress a country achieves, human development that begins in the family institution remains the main factor in creating a good society.

“This is where the role of mothers and women lies. No matter how much progress a country makes, early education that comes from family institutions, especially the upbringing of a mother, is the root of building a good society.

“If those roots are formed well by parents, then it will be easier for us to create a healthy and fresh Madani nation,” he said in his speech at the Sabah State Level Walking Together with MADANI: Women of Faith, Women of Resistance program held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Also present was Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Anwar also said that national development cannot only focus on building infrastructure, technology, industry and artificial intelligence (AI), but rather needs to be balanced with building values, morals and spiritual strength.

He said that the MADANI Malaysia concept was introduced to emphasise human development in addition to material progress.

“We don’t just want to build skyscrapers, factories and infrastructure. We also want to develop people who have values, morals and awareness.

“High-rise buildings, modern technology, industry, information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) must begin with the formation of self, values, soul and awareness of the afterlife,” he said.

According to him, the most important foundation of education still begins at home through the role of parents in introducing religious values and responsibilities to children.

“The school system can be successful, but the foundation of education still begins at home. At home, children know their parents, know the Quran, know the hadith, understand religious responsibilities and learn to pray,” he added. – June 13, 2026
