KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today logged 3,973 fresh Covid-19 cases and 22 deaths, said Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said this brings total infections to 448,457, and fatalities to 1,722.

Of the new cases, five were imported.

At a joint press conference with Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Dr Noor Hisham said the country recorded another 2,848 recoveries, taking the total to 408,236.

Of the 38,499 cases still active, 453 are in intensive care, with 244 patients requiring breathing assistance.

Six deaths were recorded in Selangor, five in Kelantan, and three in Johor, while Kuala Lumpur and Perak saw two fatalities each. Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah, and Pahang recorded one death each.

In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said that Selangor accounted for most of the day’s Covid-19 cases with 1,328, followed by Sarawak (512 cases), Kuala Lumpur (483), Johor (384), and Kelantan (321).

Penang registered 187 cases, followed by Kedah (174), Perak (140), Negri Sembilan (126), Terengganu (93), Pahang (85), Melaka (79), and Sabah (50).

Putrajaya logged eight cases and Labuan saw three. Perlis did not record any new cases today.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that the country has so far seen a total of 1,820 clusters, including 13 clusters today.

Clusters that have ended are at 1,366, while 454 remain active.

Four of today’s new clusters are related to religious activities and three are from workplaces. Another three clusters are related to education institutions, while two are from the community, and one from a high-risk group.

Selangor recorded the Jalan Haji Abdul Aziz religious activity cluster in Klang with seven cases, the Jalan Utarid Lima workplace cluster in Petaling with 64 cases, the Jalan Sepuluh Industri Miel workplace cluster in Hulu Langat, Petaling, and Gombak with 12 cases, the Kota Warisan education cluster in Sepang with 14 cases, and the Jalan Mempelam education cluster in Kuala Langat with 31 cases.

Kelantan logged the Pauh Lima religious activity cluster in Bachok and Kota Baru with 30 cases, and the Banggol Gajah Mati community cluster in Pasir Mas with 28 cases, while Johor registered the Jalan Dato Setia religious activity cluster in Johor Baru with 17 cases, and the Jalan Lingkaran Ilmu education cluster in Kulai with 13 cases.

Kedah saw the Dan Penghulu religious activity cluster in Kuala Muda with 27 cases, and the Dah Amanjaya 2 high-risk group cluster in Kuala Muda, Sik, Yan, and Kota Setar with 28 cases, while Melaka recorded the Jalan Serkam workplace cluster in Jasin and central Melaka with 20 cases. The Jalan Serkam cluster also extended to Tangkak in Johor.
