MIRI – A police constable based in Sibu has today been charged with murdering a colleague, who was found shot dead about two weeks ago.

Muhamad Nur Alif, 28, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction. No plea was taken from him.

Magistrate Siti Hanim Ramli fixed July 6 for the case to be brought up for further mention.

On May 7, the accused was arrested and placed under remand by Sibu police following a murder investigation into the death of an officer, who was found with gunshot wounds to the head.

The victim, Norhalim Tumiran, 25, was found dead at about 7pm on May 6 in a rented house at the Permai Timur housing estate in Sibu.

Originally from Pahang, he was transferred to the district recently, accompanied by his wife and 1-year-old child, with whom he was staying at the Sibu police staff quarters.

He was a new recruit, who was recently transferred to the Sibu police motorcycle patrol unit.

On the night of the incident, police received information about the case and rushed to the scene, where they found the victim in a sitting position on a sofa, dead, with gunshot wounds to the head. – The Vibes, May 19, 2021
