MIRI – Three police personnel have been arrested and placed under remand by Sibu cops today to facilitate a murder investigation of an officer, who was found with gunshot wounds to the head in a house.
Sibu police chief Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the three men, aged 21, 23 and 27, are colleagues of the victim.
They will be remanded until May 14, he added, while a full-scale murder investigation is ongoing.
The victim, Norhalim Tumiran, 25, was found dead at about 7pm yesterday in a rented house at the Permai Timur housing estate in Sibu.
Originally from Pahang, he was transferred to the district recently, accompanied by his wife and 1-year-old child, with whom he was staying at the Sibu police staff quarters.
Jonathan Ringgit said at about 7pm yesterday, police received information about the case and rushed to the scene.
There, they found the deceased dead in a sitting position on the sofa with gunshot wounds to the head, he added.
“He was a new recruit, who was transferred to the Sibu police motorcycle patrol unit less than two months ago.”
He said initial investigation showed that Norhalim had last evening gone to the house, which was rented by five friends to break fast.
Police have reasons to classify the case as murder, he added, and is investigating it under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The victim’s remains have been sent to Sibu Hospital pending post-mortem. – The Vibes, May 7, 2021
