KUALA LUMPUR – The government should sack other non-performing politicians from their ministerial and GLC posts, and not stop at Umno’s Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, said a fellow party man.
Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said while he does not believe Tajuddin’s removal is a political one, such actions should not be selective but across the board to include all incompetent leaders.
This is regardless of which party the politician is from, he added, but stopped short of naming individuals he believed should be axed next.
“I think Tajuddin is being punished for his behaviour, and has nothing to do with (Prime Minister) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s treatment towards Umno,” he told The Vibes today.
“But there are many others with positions whose behaviour and performance are also an issue and questionable. Don’t be selective in punishing. There are many more who deserve to be sacked.
“I think the rakyat will appreciate it more if the same treatment is given to all of those who failed in their respective jobs, not only Umno leaders.”
Nazri was commenting on the termination of Tajuddin as non-executive chairman of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd yesterday, just two days after an LRT crash that sent 64 passengers to hospital, six of whom are in critical condition.
The letter was issued by the Finance Ministry and signed by its minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
This followed Tajuddin’s faux pas during a press conference a day after the accident, in which he was panned for his lackadaisical, sarcastic and unempathetic responses to media queries on the crash.
Former prime minister and Barisan Nasional adviser Datuk Seri Najib Razak had said yesterday that he had advised Tajuddin to issue a public apology over his blunder in conducting the presser.
Meanwhile, like Nazri, Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said he does not believe the action taken against Tajuddin has anything to do with politics.
Instead, he felt the decision had more to do with Tajuddin’s performance as Prasarana chairman.
“I don’t think this is a matter of declaring war against Umno. I feel there must have been some matters considered by the Finance Ministry before terminating Tajuddin.
“But one thing I can say is it is not because of politics, I don’t think so,” he told The Vibes, declining to comment further.
Umno and Muhyiddin-led Bersatu have been at loggerheads for months, with the former pledging to pull support for the Perikatan Nasional government as soon the Covid-19 situation gets under control.
This has led to speculation that the decision to remove Tajuddin was done out of political interest. – The Vibes, May 27, 2021
