MIRI – Sarawak registered 654 new Covid-19 cases and a record-high 10 deaths today.
The fresh fatalities involve a 78-year-old woman and three men, aged 50, 59 and 71, at Miri Hospital. The 50-year-old patient was from Limbang and was in critical condition upon arrival at the hospital.
Two deaths, involving a man, 67, and woman, 77, were recorded at Sibu Hospital, and another two, involving a 63-year-old man and 70-year-old woman, were recorded in Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.
A 66-year-old man succumbed to the virus at Sri Aman Hospital, while a 74-year-old woman died at Kapit Hospital.
“With the latest deaths, the Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak has reached 294,” said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.
Of the 654 new cases today, Kuching leads with 217 cases, followed by Sibu (102), Miri (84), Bintulu (54), Samarahan (33), Tg Manis (27), Kapit (17), Lubok Antu (17) and Betong (15), while other districts have fewer than 15 cases each.
The committee said another three clusters were detected today.
The Jalan Jambusan cluster in Bau involves a village and, so far, recorded 18 positive individuals, who were infected during a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering.
The Sg Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri cluster, involving factory housing quarters, saw 49 workers infected.
The Muara Tabuan cluster in Kuching involves an industrial factory and, so far, recorded 152 cases.
There are about 47,000 infections and 82 clusters in the state. – The Vibes, May 31, 2021
