MIRI – Sarawak today logged another six Covid-19 clusters and five deaths as well as 588 more infections.

With the five victims, the state’s death toll stands at 305.

The state Disaster Management Committee said in a statement that all of today’s victims are seniors.

An 83-year-old woman was brought dead into Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching while a 75-year-old woman died in the same hospital.

Meanwhile, the Miri Hospital had two victims – a 64-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman – and Kapit Hospital recorded the death of a 69-year-old man.

Of the 588 news cases, Kuching district has 106 cases.

This is followed by Miri with 57 new cases, Sarikei (61), Sibu (50), Samarahan (41), Tatau (38), Bintulu (35), Selangau (24), Sri Aman (22) and other districts with fewer than 20 cases.

The three new clusters are detected in Miri district.

The Jalan Brooke cluster has 15 cases detected among traders, the Jee Cattleya cluster involves 23 factory workers, and the Jalan Pinang Riam cluster recorded 15 infected restaurant workers.

The other three new clusters are Sg Penyarai in Tatau with 27 infected natives, Nanga Meruan in Selangau where 34 longhouse folk tested positive, and Kg Bunut in Mukah where 30 villagers were infected during a Hari Raya gathering.
