KUALA LUMPUR – A computer equipment salesman was arrested on Friday night for allegedly posting a tweet on May 29 regarding the MySejahtera app and National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme that could cause public distress.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (investigation/legal) Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the 36-year-old was nabbed in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya, shortly past midnight.
Information provided by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission led to the arrest of the man, who has the Twitter handle Abah@chairmanGLC, he said in a statement yesterday.
“A mobile phone, router and modem believed to be linked to the case were seized, and the man was remanded for one day (yesterday) to facilitate investigations under Section 4(1) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021.”
He advised social media users to be prudent, and refrain from misusing online platforms. – Bernama, June 6, 2021
