KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Star has distanced itself from the “exotic cattle” controversy, saying the man hired by troubled party member Philip Among does not represent the party.
Disappointed by the now-viral court submission, Star secretary-general Datuk Guandee Kohoi clarified that the lawyer implicated in the controversy is a party member but does not represent the party.
“The matter began when police reports were lodged and a party member was subsequently immediately suspended from his post.
“Following this, the party member has hired a lawyer to defend him in court.
“Coincidentally, the lawyer is also a Star member. This matter resulted in viral allegations that he is the lawyer for Star. This is wrong,” he said here today.
Guandee said Star has never appointed lawyers to represent the party.
The party will only engage with a counsel when needed, he said, adding that he hoped the matter would be put to rest after his clarification.
Guandee also told the lawyer to not involve the party in his legal work and said the lawyer should clarify his “exotic cattle” remarks.
He added that the party is now mulling ending the lawyer’s party membership in accordance with its constitution.
Guandee said Star has received proposals to sack members who have tarnished its image. – The Vibes, June 13, 2021
