KUCHING – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) presented three crucial factors – achieving herd immunity, and having a strong government and an economic exit plan – in the fight against Covid-19 during component party presidents’ audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting held via videoconference and led by GPS chairman Datuk Abang Johari Openg, the ruling state coalition said the vaccination programme in Sarawak will be accelerated and completed by August.

“The presence of a strong and stable government (is required) to ensure Covid-19-related programmes and economic plans are well-grounded.”

The statement, signed by Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Tan Sri James Masing, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Progressive Democratic Party president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, also stated the leaders’ agreement with Abang Johari, who is chief minister, for highlighting the said factors to His Majesty.

“We fully agree on the three factors in the fight against Covid-19 and on the conduct of the economy that were presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the session.” – Bernama, June 14, 2021
