Another bank staffer remanded in bribery probe over RM18 mil personal loans

SHAH ALAM – Another bank employee has been remanded for seven days from today, for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes from applicants of personal loans amounting to RM18 million between 2018 and last year.

The remand order against the 35-year-old man was issued by magistrate Parvin Hameedah Natchiar following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

The suspect was arrested after having his statement recorded at the Selangor MACC office at 4.05pm yesterday.

The magistrate also allowed the remand of six other bank employees to be extended by another four days starting today. They were previously remanded for a week beginning Wednesday.

The seven suspects, all men, arrived at the Shah Alam court complex about 9.40am.

MACC detained the first six suspects, who are attached to bank branches in the Klang Valley, on June 8.

A source with the anti-graft agency said they are believed to have solicited and received bribes of between 15% and 35% involving 110 personal loans worth RM18 million. – Bernama, June 15, 2021
