BEAUFORT – Police are on the lookout for a man who had allegedly abused his wife and 1-year-old son at their house in Kg Membakut Jaya here yesterday.

In the 3pm incident, the suspect, 27, was believed to have been agitated by the infant’s cries, resulting in him hitting the boy and threatening to kill his wife, 23.

Beaufort district police chief Yusoff Zaki Mat Yaacob said the suspect’s wife lodged a police report yesterday claiming that her husband acted aggressively after being awakened by the boy’s crying.

“An initial investigation found that the suspect was enraged by the boy’s crying, which had disturbed his sleep, causing him to hit the boy.

“When the wife tried to protect the child, the suspect slapped and threatened to kill her,” said Yusoff.

He said the wife, who was struck on the cheek, was referred to Beaufort Hospital for treatment.

Police are now seeking the suspect, who fled after the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. – The Vibes, June 17, 2021
