KUALA LUMPUR – As Putrajaya mulls over whether to extend the third movement control order (MCO 3.0), the Health Ministry’s Facebook page is flooded with angry comments urging the federal government to shut down factories, as they have proven to be Covid-19 hotspots.

The ministry’s posts have been bombarded with comments by netizens calling for the closure of factories, with “tutup kilang (close factories)” filling up comment sections.

This follows the decision by the authorities to allow factories to operate despite them recording the highest infection rates and being breeding grounds for new Covid-19 clusters.

The ministry is not the only target of the online outcry.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s Facebook page has also been accorded the same treatment, with the same clarion call: “tutup kilang.”

The people’s frustration is justified as the number of daily Covid-19 cases has shown no improvement, yet factories, which have become catalysts in spreading the virus, remain open.

The nation is awaiting an announcement on whether MCO 3.0 will be extended, as it is slated to end on Monday. Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to make the announcement. – The Vibes, June 26, 2021
