LAHAD DATU – A premature baby boy was found under a stilt house in Kg Dasar here this morning, with the placenta and umbilical cord still attached.

A 27-year-old woman and her family who live in the house discovered the infant, still alive, laid on muddy ground underneath their house at around 7.30am here today.

District police chief Rohan Shah Ahmad said the baby boy was immediately brought to the hospital emergency ward for treatment.

“The owner of the house heard cries and dogs barking under their stilted house.

“Doctor treating the infant estimated the baby to be around three to four hours old before being discovered.

“Paramedics believed the baby boy, which weighed around one kilogram, was premature and may have been in the seventh month of pregnancy before being born.

Rohan said the baby boy has been admitted to the intensive care unit and reported to be unstable.

The case is now being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment and those found guilty for the crime face seven years’ jail. – The Vibes, June 30, 2021
