KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has political observers excited as Supreme Council members gather for a meeting at the party headquarters today, following the expiry of the president’s 14-day ultimatum to the government.

A source confirmed that several key party leaders are at Menara Dato Onn this afternoon.

He said Umno will make an announcement later today.

“Wait for the statement.”

The confirmation of the meeting comes as several Supreme Council members and Barisan Nasional leaders were spotted entering the building, as reported by Agenda Daily.

Among them are Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim, Kuala Lumpur liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and BN Backbenchers’ Club chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

MIC Youth chief Datuk C. Sivarrajh, too, was seen entering the building.

But the Malaysia Gazette reported later that Supreme Council members Tan Sri Noh Omar and Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman confirmed that they would not be attending the meeting.

The meeting comes on the heels of the expiry of the ultimatum issued by Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on June 21 for the government to reconvene Parliament, failing which, Umno would call a Supreme Council meet to discuss the party’s next step.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister’s Office said the Dewan Rakyat will hold a special five-day meeting starting late July, while the Dewan Negara will sit early next month.

In a statement, it said the government has agreed to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on a Dewan Rakyat sitting from July 26 to 29, and on August 2.

The Dewan Negara, meanwhile, will sit for three days from August 3 to 5. – The Vibes, July 5, 2021
