KUALA LUMPUR – Klang MP Charles Santiago has urged the Health Ministry to intervene immediately as dozens of Covid-19 patients are parked outside Klang General Hospital’s emergency department.

Santiago said it is a heart-wrenching sight as the hospital is out of proper beds to place the patients.

“This also sums up the state of our healthcare and particularly this hospital – it’s overwhelmed – not enough beds, exhausted medical frontliners, plus medical equipment that are breaking down,” he said today in a statement.

He also urged the government to immediately intervene to mitigate the tragedy unfolding at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital.

“I am sending a letter to the health minister requesting an immediate increase in allocation for HTAR so that a standalone temporary facility can be built to accommodate Covid-19 patients.

“I urge the government to use nearby budget hotels and public halls as an interim measure to place patients.”

At the same time, Santiago said he had also requested big corporations based in Klang to support the hospital with urgently needed medical equipment.
