GEORGE TOWN – Muafakat Nasional’s focus on race and religion is no longer relevant in the age of a pandemic and outright power squabbling, said Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy.

Ramasamy, who is a DAP central executive committee member, told The Vibes that the political alliance of Umno, PAS and Bersatu would collapse in a matter of time.

Due to the Covid-19 surge, he said Muafakat Nasional and Umno supreme council meetings have been cancelled.

“Having the meetings or not is not going to resolve the underlying tensions between PAS and Umno.”

It is clear that the talk of PAS-Umno unity seems to have dissipated, he said.

He added PAS after embracing Bersatu, has distanced itself from Umno.

As a result, Ramasamy described Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the ultimate puppeteer in the political landscape.

“Bersatu is able to withstand the pressure exerted by Umno due to PAS’ backing.”

Ramasamy also doubts Muhyiddin is going to order a cabinet reshuffle amid the pandemic.

“Even if Umno has strength in the number of parliamentarians, the move to support opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim might be a bluff.” – The Vibes, October 20, 2020
