KUALA LUMPUR – After being detained by police yesterday for questioning the allocation for the development of a system for the government’s Covid-19 vaccine drive, the 30-year-old man at the centre of the row was released on police bail last night.
Yesterday, The Vibes reported that a Twitter user was detained by police for raising doubts about the government’s RM70 million allocation in developing a system for the national immunisation push.
His lawyer Rajsurian Pillai said the man was released on police bail around 8.30pm at the Wangsa Maju police station.
“The investigation officer received orders at night to do so,” he told The Vibes today.
He said the next step is to wait as investigations are ongoing.
“If they need our cooperation, we are willing to cooperate. No issues.”
During the arrest yesterday, the man’s mobile phone was confiscated.
Rajsurian said the police will send the confiscated phone to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for forensic analysis.
“Upon completing the investigation, the investigating officer will then refer the case to the prosecution for orders whether to charge my client.”
The man is currently being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Emergency (Essential Powers) (No. 2) Ordinance 2021 for allegedly spreading fake news. – The Vibes, July 24, 2021
