JOHOR BARU – Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon is being investigated for allegedly violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) after photos of him and his family went viral.

This is the second time he has been subject to an SOP violation probe – the first being after a video of a group of people who allegedly flouted SOPs at a Batu Pahat durian orchard went viral.

Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said Batu Pahat MP Rashid will be called in to give his statement, along with two women, believed to be his wife and daughter who were seen in pictures taken at a farm in Rengit near Batu Pahat.

“We will call them to give their statements under Regulation 18(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Areas) Regulations 2021,” he told reporters here today when asked to comment on the issue.

On an earlier investigation over a video clip of a group of people having durian at an orchard in Batu Pahat, also involving Rashid, Ayob Khan said investigation papers on that case have been forwarded to the attorney-general’s office on July 14.

This comes after Rashid’s private secretary Mohd Zaihan Mohd Zainal denied that his boss violated SOPs during the visit.

Zaihan told Free Malaysia Today that the photo was taken as Rashid, his wife and daughter were waiting for Aidiladha rituals to begin.

“The rituals were scheduled at 3am so he and his family booked a homestay near the site. The family was enjoying supper while waiting. There was no issue of SOP violation.” – The Vibes, July 24, 2021
