MIRI – The Sarawak Health Department has identified 93 Delta Variant Covid-19 positive cases in the state where 80 are Sarawakians, one non-citizen, four Peninsular Malaysians and eight migrant detainees.
Apparently, 10 of them have already been fully vaccinated before they found out they were infected with the new strain.
State Health Director Datuk Dr Mohamed Sapian Mohamed said in a press statement that the latest update saw Kuching with 69 Delta cases, followed by Samarahan (10), Serian (6), Sri Aman (5), Miri (2), and Sibu (1).
The local carriers were found in clusters in various districts such as the Lorong Perlis 4 cluster in a Miri residential estate.
“They are all in hospital for treatment with one in ICU (intensive care unit), and no deaths so far.
“Out of these Delta patients uncovered, 10 had already been vaccinated with two doses before they were found positive,” he said.
Dr Sapian urged the people to stay at home, refrain from non-essential travel, observe every standard operating procedure strictly and get medical help if they suddenly fall ill.
Sarawak today recorded 407 new infections – Kuching with 198, Serian with 38, Samarahan with 34, Sibu with 27, Bintulu with 17, and Miri with eight, while several other districts logged fewer than five cases each.
