KUALA LUMPUR – Undeterred by alleged police intimidation, Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) is adamant about organising its protest against the Perikatan Nasional government and its failure to manage the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The group in a joint statement today called on all Malaysians to head to Dataran Merdeka here at 11am on July 31.

“SSR is unshaken by the intimidation tactics used by the authorities, and we call on all Malaysians, especially those in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, to head down to Dataran Merdeka at 11am on July 31.

“Our demands remain the same; the infection rate today has hit one million cases. It is clear that (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership is no longer relevant to pull Malaysia out of the Covid-19 pandemic and political instability. Resign!”

Earlier today, 23 SSR members were summoned to give their statement over a convoy that they organised yesterday.

They accused the authorities of trying to intimidate youth who are exercising their right to free speech under the federal constitution, and that they did not breach any Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).

SSR will also be issuing updates and guidelines to ensure a safe protest that adheres to all set SOPs. – The Vibes, 25 July, 2021
