KUALA LUMPUR – The government must set a ceiling price for the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine to be sold privately, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) told the government.

In a statement today, it said the ceiling price will cover the costs involving local bottler Pharmaniaga Bhd as well as related services offered by private clinics and hospitals that will not burden the people.

“The committee has been informed of the government’s decision to allow the sale of Covid-19 vaccines in the open market starting August. It is important that a ceiling price is set on vaccinations and that it is announced to the people immediately,” said PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh.

Wong, who is also Ipoh Timur MP, said the committee had taken note of the prices currently being promoted that are higher than the appropriate figure.

On the acquisition of Covid-19 vaccines and their usage on Malaysians, he said Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin met with the committee for the second time today.

He said the proceedings began at 10.30am and ended at 1pm, with ministry Secretary-General Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir and Deputy Secretary-General (technology development) Dr Mohd Noor Azman Hassan present.

“The PAC will continue with the proceedings on this issue tomorrow July 28, by calling Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz,” Wong said.

He added that the PAC will be holding the proceedings with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba and Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah next week. – The Vibes, July 27, 2021
