KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry reported 847 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 23,804.
Health Director-General Dr Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number included five imported cases, while total reported recoveries were at 486.
The ministry also reported five deaths, bringing the death toll to 204.
The majority of new infections were recorded in Sabah (578), Selangor (137), Negeri Sembilan (38), Labuan (29), and Kuala Lumpur (23).
Dr Noor Hisham said there were currently 8,183 active cases of Covid-19, all of which have been separated from the community to be treated in hospitals.
According to him, the new findings in Sabah are the result of beefed-up efforts in the state.
More RT-PCR laboratory tests have been conducted in Sabah and sent to Peninsular Malaysia, in addition to RTK Antigen screening tests for immediate field tests.
"More health workers have been mobilised from Peninsular Malaysia and from within the state to conduct screenings in the field," he said during today's press conference.
There are currently 90 cases being treated at intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, of which 29 require ventilators.
Dr Noor Hisham also said there were also six new clusters as of today, including the Tinusa cluster in Sandakan with 33 cases and the Sauh cluster with 31 cases in Papar and Kota Kinabalu.
In Selangor, the ministry identified the Jambu cluster in Hulu Langat with 6 new cases. Another new cluster, Bah Mutiara, was also active in Hulu Langat, Titiwangsa, and Lembah Pantai with 10 cases.
In Alor Gajah, Melaka the Umboo cluster saw four cases detected, while the Sofi cluster in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan saw 34 cases in total. – The Vibes, October 22, 2020.
