SUNGAI PETANI – Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s remarks during a press conference on freezer containers to hold Covid-19 victims have been widely panned.

“There are enough funeral containers, who wants to book for a spot, give us your name,” he said jokingly.

“It’s not like we want the people of Kedah to die. People in Sg Petani must adhere to the SOPs (standard operating procedures). The hospitals are full.”

Last Tuesday, preacher Ebit Lew donated two freezer containers to Kepala Batas Hospital in Penang and Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sg Petani.

Meanwhile, Sanusi said the Kedah government is expected to send Covid-19 Categories 4 and 5 patients to the field intensive care unit (ICU) at Kepala Batas Hospital in Penang if the three major hospitals in the state are not able to accommodate anymore critically ill patients.

“It is difficult to set up a field hospital in Kedah. In addition, the field ICU in Kepala Batas Hospital still has vacancies and is able to accommodate Categories 4 and 5 patients from here (Kedah).

“Currently, the bed capacity in hospitals, including the ICU wards, is full. The usage is almost 90%. But to address the issue, we are transferring regular patients to Yan and Baling hospitals.” – The Vibes, August 6, 2021
