KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s Parit MP Datuk Mohd Nizar Zakaria has joined several of his party mates in reiterating support for the resolution made by the Supreme Council on withdrawing support from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Nizar was among the names mentioned during a press conference organised by Barisan Nasional lawmakers yesterday.

In a Facebook post today, he said he supports Umno and the Supreme Council’s resolution to no longer support Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the PN administration.

“I comply with the party’s decision.”

Yesterday, Tg Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar said in a press conference that his signature on a list of names purportedly of Barisan Nasional MPs behind Muhyiddin was not a show of his support, but rather, merely indicates his attendance at a meeting organised by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“I will abide by the decree issued by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to the prime minister and wait until the Parliament session to determine the legitimacy of the present government, unless the king issues another decree before the session.

“The PN government will continue as the legitimate government until the September parliamentary session.”

Noh, a Supreme Council member and former minister, called on Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to hold a briefing with all party MPs to explain the decision to pull support for PN and Muhyiddin.

“This was something that I agreed on with my fellow MPs during this morning’s meeting. This is because most of the MPs are not part of the Umno Supreme Council that deliberated on the decision before announcing it.

“I stress once again that I abide by my party’s decision. I realise that I became an MP not because of my name, but because of the BN symbol, and the Umno machinery that has toiled for me.

“I am no one without the party.”

Meanwhile, Baling MP and Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said he took note of the various negative allegations on social media claiming he has betrayed the party, maintaining that this is not the case.

“As a party member who contested under the Umno and BN banner, I will never do that. I would like to explain that the signature on the viral document is merely for his attendance to the meeting.

“There were no other letters that we were asked to sign.” – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
