KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s Tg Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar has reiterated his support for the Supreme Council’s decision to withdraw its backing for Perikatan Nasional and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Noh said his signature on a list of names purportedly of Barisan Nasional MPs behind Muhyiddin is not a show of his support, but rather, merely indicates his attendance at a meeting earlier today organised by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“I will abide by the decree issued by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to the prime minister and wait until the Parliament session to determine the legitimacy of the present government, unless the king issues another decree before the session.
“The PN government will continue as the legitimate government until the September parliamentary session.”
Noh, a Supreme Council member and former minister, called on Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to hold a briefing with all party MPs to explain the decision to pull support for PN and Muhyiddin.
“This was something that I agreed on with my fellow MPs during this morning’s meeting. This is because most of the MPs are not part of the Umno Supreme Council that deliberated on the decision before announcing it.
“When this is the case, the Umno MPs who are not part of the council are only aware of the decision, but not the rationale behind it. They want a detailed explanation behind the decision.
“Since I am a part of the council, I am very clear on the party’s decision.”
He dismissed talk that he is easily bought, emphasising that he is a straightforward person.
“I stress once again that I abide by my party’s decision. I realise that I became an MP not because of my name, but because of the BN symbol, and the Umno machinery that has toiled for me.
“I am no one without the party.”
Noh’s remarks follow Ismail Sabri’s announcement that a total of 31 BN parliamentarians agree that PN should continue to govern until a confidence motion is tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next month. – The Vibes, August 6, 2021
