KUALA LUMPUR – Gabungan Bertindak Memorandum Rakyat Malaysia (GBMRM) today submitted a memorandum to Istana Negara calling for Parliament to reconvene by this Friday.

The coalition of non-governmental organisations also called for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to present evidence that he still has the support of the majority in Parliament.

At a press conference outside the gates of the Royal Palace here this morning, GBMRM coordinator Mustafa Mansor called for Muhyiddin to reconvene the Parliament sitting by Friday.

“If this does not happen, we will call on all the rakyat to raise black or white flags on August 14 as a sign of protest.

“It’s not a physical gathering but the people can fly their flags from their cars and motorcycles to show their support.”

Mustafa said white flags represent the need for support from the palace to be involved with the current crisis, and black signifies the fight against those who have stripped power away from and betrayed the people.

He also said that, as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government and Muhyiddin have lost the majority support of MPs, they should respect the democratic system and step down honourably.

Mustafa added the NGOs hope that the king will take this matter seriously and take into account the welfare of the people who have to bear the consequences.

“This is the result of betrayal and torture of the rakyat,” he said.

After the memo was read out, the group members and media were instructed to disperse by police. – The Vibes, August 11, 2021
