KUALA LUMPUR – A man who is currently being investigated by police for allegedly insulting the Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has accused the Kuala Muda district police chief of slandering him in a press statement.
Roslei Kamisan, also known as “Tok Abah”, is now demanding that the police chief apologise and retract his allegations.
Tok Abah’s lawyer, Asheeq Ali, said Kuala Muda police chief Adzli Abu Shah in a statement on August 9 claimed that Tok Abah had a previous criminal record and is currently being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
“This statement is untrue and defamatory towards my client.
“He has no charges in court, nor is there any investigation against him under Section 506 of the Penal Code,” said Asheeq in a statement.
Asheeq also said the alleged defamatory statement has ruined the reputation of Tok Abah, who is a retired member of the Malaysian Armed Forces.
Tok Abah’s legal team is also demanding RM100,000 in damages.
Adzli has 14 days to fulfil these demands, failing which, Tok Abah’s lawyers will proceed to file a civil suit.
Tok Abah is represented by Asheeq, Ramkarpal Singh and Sangeet Kaur Deo.
Over the week, police have arrested four individuals for insulting Sanusi over unsavoury comments he made at a press conference.
Sanusi said there were enough containers in the state to store the remains of those who died from Covid-19, before joking that those who wanted to enter should “give your names”.
