KUCHING – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is pleased with the way the Perikatan Nasional government has been running the country since taking over the reins last year.
“If Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tenders his resignation to the king tomorrow, it will be regrettable,” said secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
“GPS has always been happy with the way critical issues are handled by the PN government, at least where Sarawak is concerned.”
Nanta, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu secretary-general, said the coalition is also satisfied with the way the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme is executed, as Sarawak is close to achieving 80% herd immunity.
The ruling state government has no issue with the economic recovery plans implemented by the federal government, he added.
He said the opposition has been bearing down hard on the prime minister and PN government, giving too little leeway for the administration to function effectively.
“Too much politicking by the opposition and branding the administration ‘kerajaan gagal’ is not going to help.”
GPS has always stood up for an administration that prioritises the interest of the people and strives to sustain a community of peace-loving citizens who pay attention to human and infrastructural development, he added.
Meanwhile, Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Tan Sri James Jemut Masing has refused to comment on the latest political developments and talks of Muhyiddin relinquishing his post.
The deputy chief minister said for the past few days, rumours are rife that the prime minister will quit, but added that he has paid them no heed.
“I do not deal with rumours and speculations,” he told the Borneo Post today, adding, “I will wait till the truth comes out tomorrow.”
Political observer Peter Minos said Muhyiddin will surprise everyone tomorrow.
“Only the kleptocrats and power-egoists are baying for his blood and putting out the propaganda that he will resign. The prime minister will outwit all of his opponents by advising the king to dissolve Parliament in early November.
“He will suggest an early general election be held in either December or January (next year) as by October, 80% of the population will be vaccinated, and it will be safe to hold a snap election with strict standard operating procedures and guidelines.” – The Vibes, August 15, 2021
