KUALA LUMPUR – Ministers in Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s cabinet are issuing “farewell” statements on their social media accounts, after Umno’s Khairy Jamaluddin confirmed the resignation of the cabinet.

Khairy in an InstaStory today said: “The cabinet has tendered our resignation to the Agong. Thank you for the opportunity to, once again, serve the nation. May God bless Malaysia.”

This signals the end of the road for Muhyiddin, as the cabinet typically resigns along with the prime minister. He is set to address the nation today at 3pm.

The Perikatan Nasional cabinet served for a total of 17 months.

Law Minister and PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan also tweeted the resignation of the cabinet, saying the “retreat is done based on collective responsibility, not collective guilt”.

Another Umno minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, also tweeted his “farewell”, saying: “It has been an honour and a privilege to serve our beloved country and her people. May Allah SWT bless us all.”

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri also took to Twitter for a goodbye post.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali also took to Twitter today, offering apologies for his “shortcomings”.

Also making his final farewell on social media was Dr Adham Baba, who thanked all Health Ministry staff and frontliners.

Meanwhile, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali posted that the last Perikatan Nasional cabinet meeting is done.

“God willing. The last Perikatan Nasional cabinet meeting this morning is over. The prime minister is making his way to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Khairuddin posted earlier today.

“When you are determined to make a decision, then trust and surrender to God because God loves those who trust (enough) to surrender.”

Bersatu Youth chief and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal thanked Muhyiddin for his service and leadership.

In a Facebook post today, he said: “We stand tall and proud of you, Tan Sri president. Thank you for your service and leadership. We’ll come back stronger, InshaAllah.”

Muhyiddin’s speculated resignation follows intense pressure from various quarters after he lost the confidence of the Dewan Rakyat following the withdrawal of more than a dozen Umno MPs earlier this month. – The Vibes, August 16, 2021
